Magic truffle intoxication: A case report

Unusual forms of hallucinogenic mushrooms are emerging, which may delay diagnosis and compromise optimal management. Here, we discuss clinical biological findings in a case “magic mushroom” intoxication 20-year-old man who was brought to hospital emergency department state euphoria, disorientation, intense visual hallucinations, episodic amnesia agitation requiring physical restraint. The patient’s family intact specimens the consumed product, without any health professional being able identify it. Toxicological screening detected psilocin urine unknown mushrooms, allowing guiding mushroom identification towards Psilocybes genus. Ten hours post-ingestion, patient discharged asymptomatic. We believe that recognition unusual form presented here by physicians might contribute better subsequent management, especially since substances not routinely tested toxicological analyses.
